Damn I suffer, I’ve been stuck, can say I fucked up
I’ll focus on the positive, can I struggled enough
my problems are small compared to others
my opportunity’s large compared to others
I was about to overdose on pills
until I saw my grandmother and thought of my little brother
family switched my focus
plan was to notice
that maybe my life means more
than overdosing
the detox was terrible
no feeling is comparable
uncontrollable rage, I couldn’t walk my shame off
depression was surging through my mind about the days lost
soaked in a cold sweat
itching feeling hopeless
so lost and so see through and so ghost-ish
throw up from dopesick
Now sober for the first time,
damn I feel so rich


what an incredible dream
a working teaching artist, sharing poetry with teens
yoga with addicts still in recovery
teaching people how to breathe self discovery
Byob, be your own boss
so much at risk, when every dollar could be lost
Started building my own schedule, farmer market, home grown vegetables
I am so grateful that the pay has been exceptional
music and yoga’s my thang, my time’s invested full
I've been living in community that just keeps on giving
sharing food and ambition, creative collaboration in the kitchen
maybe this is, the perfect time to envision,
you can overcome anything
gratitude's the first step, the rest is up for you to sing
In this moment I have everything I need
The fruits of life have been tasting so sweet
what a blessing
that I get to wake up
and be present
